Craziest Green Products

Some green products are relatively common place.  You've got your organic toothpaste, your light bulb, what have you.  But a few folks have really stepped up their game and come up with some wild stuff.  Here are some of the craziest, weirdest, most ridiculous, and just plain WOW! green products in the world.

1.  The Butt Butt from Hemingway Design & Straight plc

What is it: So apparently in the UK, they call rain barrels "water butts."  Well, Hemingway Design took the term water butt to a whole new level with the Butt Butt.  That's right, it's a rainwater collection container for your garden.

How it works: The Butt Butt fits along your wall and can be attached right under your drain pipe so your rainwater goes right in.  It's also outfitted with a spigot which is placed in such a way that it is somewhat reminiscent of those drink & wet dolls...but not quite.  In any case, it lets you easily tap into your rainwater to water your garden.

Where to get it: They are exclusively carried at B&Q stores in the UK for £89.98.  Oh, and they also come in three different "skin tones."  Check out waterbutts.com for more info.

2.  The No! Shopping Bag Bra from Triumph Japan

What is it: Yes, it is indeed a bra.  It's also oh so eco-friendly!  This one keeps your reusable shopping bags close to your heart.  There's really no excuse to leave home without them.

How it works: That's a very good question.  So the bra itself doesn't actually hold your melons.  The padding does!  The "shopping bag" parts of the bra are tucked away inside the lace cups.  When the bra is worn, it's like extra padding.  Then, you just whip off the bra, pull out the shopping bag parts, connect the hooks on the underwire, and away you go!

Where to get it: The bra, which is doubly eco-friendly since it's made from recycled-plastic-bottle polyester (and comes with a matching set of panties with a tag that says something like "No to plastic bags for shopping"), is available in red, blue, green, yellow, and pink.  But sadly Triumph anounced that they wouldn't mass produce them as to not embarrass any conservative folks by helping women prance around grocery stores taking off their undergarments.

3.  The Sink Positive from Environmental Designworks

What is it: They call it a "multi-purpose accessory sink" but basically it's a simple greywater system that lets you use the potable (i.e. super clean) water before it fills your toilet tank.

How does it work: The Sink Positive replaces your toilet tank.  It plugs into the water source and draws that clean water up through the faucet bit each time you push the toilet flusher down.  Then you wash your hands, and your slightly soapy water goes into the tank to be saved for the next flusher-oo.  It's a genius way to save a bunch of water.  And you can never get away with not flushing your hands...not that you ever do that.

It's a little awkward to stand over the toilet to wash your hands but who cares!  You're helping save the planet.  For more reviews, head over here.

Where to get it:  For a mere $119 (S&H not included), you can get your Deluxe Sink Positive delivered to your door directly from Environmental Designworks.  Or there the Standard model for $10 less.

4. The Solar Bra (also from those inventive folks at Triumph)

What is it: If you weren't impressed by the bra above, this one should knock your socks off with ridiculousness.  It is a solar bra (of course, it doesn't really work if you're wearing clothes over it so better get ready to strip down).

How it works: Not only can it generate enough energy to charge your iPod or to write messages on the bra's...display board (yeah, why it has a display board, don't ask us), but it also has pouches (those little lighter colored areas on the titular area) that can hold water or any other liquid.  And you can attach a straw to the pouches...and drink.  Yep, it's a very different kind of breast feeding.

Anyway, the other green factor for this bra-and-panty set is that it's made from organic cotton.  And of course, it's green in color.  So that's an added bonus.

Where to get it: I know, I know...disappointment abounds.  This one is also not currently being mass produced as Triumph decided "people usually cannot go outside without wearing clothes over it."  And that sort of defeats the purpose.

5. Din-ink pen cutlery from Zo-loft design

What is it: We've all loved and lost our Bic pens.  But now, your average ballpoint pen can become your utensils for lunch.  Thanks to Zo-loft design, you can carry around these little cutlery pen tops and bust them out instead of using disposable sporks or something.

How it works: It's not very complicated.  Instead of a normal pen cap that's just a pen cap, Din-ink offers you a spoon, a fork, or a knife.  And on top of that, they're also 100% biodegradable, non toxic, and hygienic.  Fasioned from non-GM corn and potato stratch, they're heat resistent up to 105 degrees C (but any hotter than that, you'll probably melt them and burn your tongue).  Now you've got a good excuse for biting your pen.

Where to get it: Tears...still in concept design phase.  Until then, try SpudWare - they're not pens but they're utensils made from potatoes.  You can get that stuff from the whole sale distributor at Excellent Packaging & Suppy (Greg and Steve are very kind with samples).

6. Edible Shoe Cream from PO-ZU

What is it: If you were stuck in the wilderness with nothing but the clothes on your back and your PO-ZU shoe cream, you'd be fine!  Because you could eat the cream for sustenance.  Yummy.  Okay, seriously, this shoe cream is indeed edible.  It's made from coconut oil (PO-ZU says it's the best quality and "best tasting") -- it's not even hydrogenated!  It's made from 100% coconut.

How it works: This shoe cream does what it's supposed to for your shoes...it cleans and polishes.  But it's also a "delicious 'all-in-one' beauty product that can be used as a lip balm, skin moisturizer, hair conditioner, massage oil and even as an alternative cooking oil. You can even spread it on your toast!"

Where to get it: For only $15, this tasty all-purpose joy can be yours directly from PO-ZU.

7. Elephant Poop Paper

What is it? It's paper. Made from Elephant Poop. I suppose it's better than using trees, but knowing the insatiable appetites of elephants, my guess is there was plenty of plant mass that went in to creating that poop. Further, most folks do what they can to avoid man-handling elephant dung. The picture at right is actually a painting completed BY an elephant on elephant poop paper...crazy.

Where to get it: Look no further than elephantdungpaper.com.
