Love my Prius!
cherieb reviewed March 19, 2008 at 11:36 am

I love this car! I commute 130 miles round-trip to work 5 days a week. In 2 1/2 years I've put about 92k miles on it, and it continues to run great. This car has changed the way I drive (in a good way!). I average about 50 miles per gallon. It's stylish, it has zip when I need it, it's roomy and overall is the best vehicle I've ever owned. I recommend it to anyone that asks! When it comes time to replace it, you can bet I'll buy another Prius.

Terrific vehicle

I have owned my Prius for almost 3 years now. It has been the best car I have ever owned. Although the mileage is not quite as good as the sticker promised, its performance has been excellent. I am pleased that it is a low -emissions vehicle. It seats five comfortably and it has tons of leg room in the back seat for long-legged passengers. The hatch-back allows for lots of cargo hauling. I love how quiet it is especially while waiting at a red light. I would love to buy one each for my kids if I had the funds!

Toyota Prius
McWheels reviewed October 9, 2008 at 6:39 pm

I purchased a 2005 Toyota Prius on eBay with a salvage title. It had 9,500 miles and had been nicely repaired. I flew to Houston, TX, met the seller and test drove the car. It was great with high end keyless start, bluetooth for cell phone, etc. I paid the seller and drove the Prius home 1100 miles averaging 52 MPG at 70 MPH. Sweet getting 400 miles out of that little 10 gal. or so fuel tank. My wife loves the car and so do the kids who are all over 21 years old now. The chose the Prius to take on a road trip to Toronto this summer with friends from Germany. There were 5 adults with luggage in the Prius.

Problems have been few but recently I have noticed the right high beam headlight is not working. It is not as simple as changing a headlight bulb on the Prius. The halogen system is costly to repair and it may be a "brainbox" which is causing the problem. That may cost upwards of $350 to fix. The windshield washer has stopped working and I don't know why. I did discover a bent wheel rim which was probably overlooked on the repair of the vehicle but found when I had new tires put on last fall. It's 1/4" out of line and was not possible to balance the wheel as a result. It has not caused undue wear to the tire. The eBay seller said he would provide a replacement wheel and headlight part to remedy the problems.

I love this car!

I'd been looking for the right hybrid for the right price for well over a year. When I finally started seriously looking for a new car, I couldn't find the right one. Then, when I stopped looking, I found her! My Prius is my dream car. It's high-tech, easy to drive, gets great gas mileage (mine averages about 48 mpg), and is trouble-free. After sinking several thousand dollars into my old Jeep Cherokee (also a great vehicle, but it was ancient!), it's nice to know that my Prius is dependable. The regular battery did die after I'd had the car for 5 weeks (bad cell) , and it was difficult to find a replacement - I was in a loaner from the dealer for nearly 3 weeks, waiting on my Prius battery. This is a great car, and I'm happy to say that we're seeing a lot more of them on the road around here!

Love my Prius... lots!

I will be to the point. I have owned it nearly 3 years. It has more than 62,000 miles on it already - never broken down. Have not yet had to put brake pads on it (due to regenerative braking technology). Gas mileage by tank average ranges from 43 to 46 mpg - which is what I expected from the research I did prior to buying the car. Bought the lvl 3 package which was the highest for that year... has built in GPS, Bluetooth, etc. Simply love it! Saves me nearly $200 per month in gas vs my previous car (Jeep Cherokee). The only con I have - and it is a common issue with hybrids - is going up steep grades the low torc the system uses can have some trouble keeping up highway speed. Now out here in California, that means you will not be going 80 mph up a steep grade, but you should be able to stay around 65-70 mph - so not totally awful or anything...

More brown than green (hi Ted & Dan!)

Well, to be honest....I didn't have it, but I drove it with the comments noted above. I applaud Toyota's pioneering effort....it has started a movement in the right direction. Now let's be realistic. Think about these questions: How many miles will you need to drive to match the incremental cost compared to a similar conventional gasoline powered car? Where does Toyotal get the raw materials for the batteries, what isw the environmental cost of transporting, manufacturing...and eventually disposing of (or recycling) these materials? To what extent are net toxic emissions reduced (ie, ALL emissions, including those generated by the manufacturing process)?
Does one purchase a Prius to save fossil fuels and decrease emissions, or to make a public statement on being "green" (perhaps both). Hopefully Honda will develop a (mostly) solar-powered home-based hydrogen production plant/refueling station....and we'll have hydrogen/plug in electric hybrids. Then we can conveniently forget that pollution was transferred to a coal-powered plant elsewhere!
