The price tag was on the high side, but this is a well designed car that I have been happy with from the moment I drove it off the lot. (I could not test drive it because the dealer had to order it for me - this took about five months due to high demand). I purchased the optional Package B - included smart key entry system, an upgraded stereo system (more speakers), side curtain airbags and vehicle stability control. It is virtually impossible to lose traction with this car - even in snowy conditions. The safety features give me peace of mind, and the sound quality from the stereo is great. It was well worth the price for the upgrade.
I have heard the argument that with the Prius you pay the price up front for the fuel savings. It seems that fuel prices have been going up non-stop, so at this point I believe I am way ahead. I have not worked out my fuel consumption exactly, but it is consistently about 40 mpg (5 L/100km) I love the fact that the touch screen display shows fuel consumption continuously - helps keep my driving efficient. The car is so quiet that you can literally sneak up behind people walking in a parking lot (without actually trying), or stand next to the car, and not realize that it is running. The seats are extremely comfortable, and I find the display to be very easy to read, although it took a bit of getting used to. Some people have commented that the 'gear shift' is rather odd, but it did not take long to get used to it. I cannot say enough good things about the smart key entry system. Not having to fumble for a car key is a huge plus - especially when my hands are full with groceries and/or children!
Maintenance is not unlike maintenance on a traditional car - it has not been any more expensive to get routine maintenance done. The battery is covered by a very good warranty, and I have had absolutely no problems with the car at all.
Overall, I highly recommend this car.
