Repell-Em Eco Smartbags 13 Gallon Trash Bags
Repell-Em bags are a green or red, translucent color. The color doesn't attract bugs to the bags and the scent repels them if they are close. It’s also important to keep in mind that most bags on the market today are made to be extremely thin so consumers get more bags for their buck. Unfortunately these cheap bags are so poorly made that they usually rip and break apart easily. That's why Repell-Em garbage bags are 2-3 times thicker and stronger than those supermarket bags.

To achieve environmental friendliness, Repell-Em bags are made of 100% natural, organic ingredients that were found to repel many insects and animals, and biodegrade the plastic 100% in a short time. There are many companies that claim their products are bio-degradable, but in reality, their products are merely degrading into smaller pieces of plastic.

Repell-em products, once placed in a typical landfill or thrown in your backyard compost bin, will biodegrade 100% into soil in 1 to 7 years depending on environmental conditions. All the other "so called" biodegradable products produced using corn-based resin, starch additives, and oxo-based additives, all take 30-50 years or more to fully biodegrade or remain for many more years! They function poorly when exposed to heat, light, or moisture, and really do not stand up.

Seem like cool bags

These bags make for a tricky review, because they make some serious claims, and it's hard to test if they live up to them.

For example, they claim the bags biodegrade 100% in 1-7 years, which is much faster than corn-based biodegradable bags like BioBag or Trellis.  Is this claim true?  Well, I don't have a compost pile yet, and once I do, it will take a year to test it out!  So if it lives up to this claim, that's a great feature, but I can't say if it does.

The company claims the bags are made of 100% natural, organic ingredients, but they don't reveal what those ingredients are.

It also claims to repel flies, which is pretty nice.  Again, not an easy claim to test.

The bags are a translucent green, which looks pretty nice.  They're also sturdy and thick, which is an important quality for a trash bag.  I also collect my recycling in a trash bag, and so far the Eco Smartbags have held up a bit better than your standard garbage bag.

Your standard trash bags cost about 13 cents apiece whereas the Eco Smartbags cost about 34 cents apiece, so they're not terribly expensive.  They don't have any drawstrings which is a handy feature, but they do come with twist ties.

So overall I'd have to say the jury is still out regarding exactly how good these bags are, but if they live up to their claims, it's a pretty impressive product.
