EarthLED CL-5 LED Light Bulb

The revolutionary CL-5 is the most powerful direct replacement bulb that also works great in traditional lamp applications. Direct dispersion bulb technology provides a truly natural light pattern. With a high output 5 watt light engine, the CL-5 will provide light equivalent to a 75 Watt incandescent light bulb.

Amazing Efficiency

The CL-5 Bulb like all EarthLEDs is amazingly efficient. Although it only draws 3 watts of electricity, it performs like a 75 Watt light bulb while at the same time operating below 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The end result is reduced cooling costs and operational safety above and beyond that of traditional incandescent bulbs.

Long Life = Big Savings.

The CL-5 has a life span of over 50,000 hours meaning you will be able to enjoy its amazing light output and energy cost savings for over 11 Years! On the other hand the incandescent that is in its place now will need to be replaced over 50 times in the same time frame.

To put this into perspective:

One - 5 Watt EarthLED CL-5 costs approximately $2.20 to run per year at 12 hours per day. Since it was on for approximately 4000 hours it still has nearly 10 years of life! Throughout its entire 11 year life an CL-5 will cost approximately $75, including the cost of the CL-5, while a traditional fixture using an incandescent bulb will cost nearly $450!

Environmentally Friendly by Design

EarthLEDs are the most environmentally friendly light source other than pure sunlight. First, there are no hazardous substances used inside EarthLEDs. All of our products are RoHS compliant (a strict new standard calling for the elimination of hazardous substances). You've probably heard a lot about Compact Florescent Bulbs or CFL. These have been touted as a solution to the inefficiencies of incandescent yet they are all made with mercury, thus they are hardly an environmentally sound solution after all.

Second, EarthLEDs are part of the solution to the energy crisis we are all facing. EarthLEDs use less power up front and generate less heat when used. Replacing all of your lighting with EarthLED's will suddenly make your home or building an environmentally friendly structure.

Finally, with the long life you will achieve from your EarthLED bulb, you will save on the disposal of approximately 50 incandescent bulbs and 5 mercury tainted, compact fluorescent bulbs thus cleaning up our landfills and ultimately saving our environment from waste.

Light Pure and Simple

EarthLED CL-5 bulbs are available in white and warm light color temperatures for the utmost in flexibility. No matter which temperature you choose, you will always get pure, clear light that makes reading or viewing objects easier on the eyes. Tired of annoying flickering and headaches caused by compact fluorescent bulbs? Say hello to EarthLEDs and their consistent visibility.

Surprisingly Excellent!

I was really impressed at both the amount and quality of light this little guy put off into my office. It springs to life instantly (unlike CFLs) and (I tested it myself) simply sips power. It's at least 90% more efficient than incandescent light bulbs. Luckily for me, I got the bulb for free from EarthLED as a sample so I could better write about the bulb, but I'm looking to outfit all the non-dimmable lights in my house with EarthLED CL-5s.

Great bulbs

I was so pleased with the performance of the CL-3 I purchased.
I figured I would purchase a couple CL-5's. I ordered both the cool white and the warm white, the warm white is my favorite, it produces a more natural light. I would compare it to a 60 watt bulb.
The Cool white is fine for general lighting, but it's a little spooky, I would not recommend cool whites for reading.

I had received notice from my electric company that they were increasing rates by 5%.
That would add an additional $5 dollars to my monthly bill. I'm not cool with that at all.
So I took the $60 dollars a year I would have spent on the higher electricity costs and decided to invest in bulbs. Switching from 15 watt CFL bulbs to Earthled 5 watt bulbs decreases my operating costs for lighting by 66 percent. When Earthled compared the savings of ownership, they never thought to mention rising electric prices into the equation. Anybody considering these bulbs, don't hesitate to try the warm white models. Buy them now!

An excellent bulb

Two of these bulbs in my ceiling fixture sufficiently light my small bedroom.  10 Watts to light my room!  Although they are not truly omnidirectional, the globe design adequately permits light dispersal.

The light output for this design is amazing!  It's also whisper quiet.

Cons: Being an LED bulb, it is expensive... not dimmable.

The LED bulb everyone will want.

I own both the CL-3 and CL-5 bulbs.  I have found that the CL-5 is, as expected, much brighter than the CL-3 - thus much more able to fill needs around your home for lighting.  We are using them in our kids desk lamps they use for hours of study.  Previously they had CFLs (originally incandescents) and we did not like the idea of the kids perhaps being clumsy or careless and breaking such a bulb right on their workspace.  LEDs excell in the more directed task lighting roll.

The CL-5 has a nice bright, warm light. (There is also a cool white available).  Plenty bright for a desk.  Light is easy on the eyes, not harsh at all.  It is not as bright, in our opinion, as a 60 watt incandescent - but nearly so... and at only 5 watts!!!   Bulb is rated at around a 50,000 hour lifetime... at our usage, that will definately be around 12 years or more.  Definately recommend this bulb.

<Update 10/09/2008>:  I have recently installed two CL-5s as my garage workbench lighting.  Ultimately I want my workbench to be only solar powered, so these bulbs being only 10 total combined watts are ideal.
