Plug-in America applies for a spot in Obama's inaugural parade

One of America's most vocal plug-in vehicle advocacy groups, Plug In America, wants to march for Obama. According to PIA's Paul Scott, the group has applied for a space in the Presidential Inaugural Parade this coming January in Washington, DC. PIA won't just be walking behind a RAV4 EV and tossing out candy. No, the plan is to participate with "the world's speediest and most sophisticated electric vehicles before the millions who will be watching coverage of this momentous event. Imagine a phalanx of Tesla Roadsters, eBoxes from AC Propulsion, Vectrix and Zero motorcycles, a converted Prius, Volt and PHEV Ford Escape and a Toyota RAV4 EV to show longevity - all led by a float consisting of an electric truck covered with solar PV and a windmill." Take that, Macy's. According to PIA's application letter (available after the break), Ford, General Motors, Tesla and other companies have already given firm commitments to participate.

Now that would be one sweet inaugural parade!

That would be a huge, public endorsement of PHEVs and EVs. That would be really cool. When will the final lineup be announced?

I really hope it works out!  Parades are the best way to get the general public interested in something.  Here is a shot of our Zaptruck in a local parade...cheesy, I know, but lots of people though it was cute.  It has the solar panel built in, and we made a kite to fly above with big keys and a sign that said, "WWBD, What Would Ben Drive?"

Imagine with the proper resources.  Electric cars could make an amazing splash with this!  I'm a little disappointed to see that they are more interested in representing hybrids and fancy electrics.  I think that it would have been nice to represent some more affordable options too.  Although, I realize the consumer has the hots for the fancy stuff.  I hope Obama realizes and supports the progress of some of the smaller companies too who are working hard not just with hybrids but fully electric too.

The parade is already going to be quite the event given who our President-Elect is, but man, oh man...that'd be sweet to see EVs in the line.

I agree with srj0385.  I think it'd be cool to include some of the EVs with lower price tags, but in either case, it'll be a great way to get additional exposure for the technology.
