CA Water Treatment Plant has great success with solar array!

Some good news on the western front - up in Los Angeles County, city of El Segundo to be exact (that is right by LAX), they installed a 60,000 sq ft array - apparantly over their treatment tanks - that produces gobs of solar electricity... 903,800 Kw in it's first year!!!  This was 11% more than they expected and offsets their power costs by $90,000 per year at that level of energy production!  Total production from install thru September, 2008 = 160 Mwh (yes, megawatt hours) of energy - woot!!!

Great to hear governments are finally coming around! Solar is a boon and if we could only get the price down enough for everyone to panel their homes things would really take off! I hope to see more treatment and other systems convert or suppliment their power with solar and wind.
