Baby Diaper Rash/ Yeast Infection Tips and Recipes

These are just some recipes I have either collected over time from various sources or figured out on my own, more the previous then the latter.

Because of past experiences with posting a bunch of recipes or items in a thread, i am going to make each recipe it's own post, just to help seperate them out more.

EMU Herbal Baby Balm Recipe

Summary:

This aromatic oil balm is healing, soothing, or helps miitgate pain and stress for babies, safe for newborns to prevent and heal nappy bottoms.

Ingredients:

Make Ahead: Botanical Infusion - 3 tbsp. Dried lavender flowers; 1 tbsp. dried calendula petals; 1 tbsp. dried rose petals; 1 tbsp. dried chamomile flowers to 1 cup Grapeseed Oil, Olive Oil, or Hemp Seed Oil (or a blend of oils). Simmer the herbs in the oil for at least 4 hours.

Tip for faster infusion: In a clean coffe grinder blend herbs then add to oil, infuse for 1 hour over a double boiler to allow healing properties of herbs to be fully released to the oil. If using whole herbs, infuse at low heat for at least 4 hours in double boiler.

Emollients (to soften and soothe):

In a glass bowl blend:
1 tbsp. T-50
1 1/2 tsp. EMU Oil
4 drops either Rose, Roman Chamomile, or Lavender Essential Oil. (I used 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil

**caution use only recommended amounts of essential oils especially if recipe is being used on a newborn or baby under 6 mos of age***

Next take a wire strainer and place a coffee filter inside of strainer, strain herb & oil mixture into bowl of emollients, be sure to apply gentle pressure to coffee filter to squeeze out most of oil, but do not break coffee filter or allow herbs to spill.

Emulsifier:
5 tbsp. Beeswax melted in separate double boiler
After beeswax is melted slowly pour into bowl of emollients and herb infused oil, mix w/ electric blender or hand whisker until mixture is thick and creamy. Quickly pour into 2oz and or 4 oz sterlized jars, recipe yields 16oz. Label, if you plan to store balm for 3 months or more, refrigerate.
This recipe is good for babies bottoms, or any burns, cuts or scrapes. Balms (also called salves) work best for healing burns, cuts, scrapes, diaper rash & skin.

Another great tip for yeast infections on a baby before you result to the conventional medicine try using yogurt, the same as you would a cream. Make sure the yogurt has active cultures in it. And if your little one is old enough feed it to them also. This will help to right the bacterial imbalance in the intestines that is causing the yeast infections, and will help to clear up the on site infection by directly applying the cultures in the yogurt to the site where they can do there job and make your little one's bum feel better.
