Question Thread for Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril

This week, we've got Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril,

A bit about Tendril...

Tendril is a provider of residential energy management systems. They recently launched their Tendril Residential Energy Ecosystem, or TREE, which is a platform that is empowers folks to manage their own energy consumption.  TREE allows for two-waycommunication between the utility and consumer, allowing customers the power to actively engage with their utility provider and make real-time decisions that save money and benchmark against their peers.

What questions do you have for this amazing energy saving guru?  You've got a week to ask and vote on which questions he'll answer!

Things to remember:

  • Make sure to write only 1 question per post (but feel free to ask as many questions as you like)
  • Check back to vote on the questions you'd most like to have answered by Adrian (use the "Rate Post" thumb up to vote)

On Friday, we'll send the best 10 over to Adrian and post his answers ASAP. Then, you'll have the chance to talk with him in the forums with follow-ups.

Check out the Interview Guidelines for a bit more help if you need it. Good luck - may the best questions win!

Can you go into the specifics of what TREE does?  For example, does it allow thermostats and recharging devices to operate during the utility's off-peak hours?

How many and which utility providers are you working with?

Are you anticipating that in the future a consumer and utility could use a system like TREE to allow a plug-in hybrid or electric car charging system to communicate with the utility provider and recharge the battery during off-peak hours?

What exactly is in it for the utilities?  Seems like they'd profit more off of inefficiency.

What are the differences between your different consumer products?

If you had to recommend just one of your consumer products, which one would it be and why?

It seems quite easy to get the system working with thermostats and individual outlets, but what about integration with large appliances?  Do any manufacturers plan to join the ZigBee Alliance and integrate functionality into their products?

Are the Tendril products strictly for electricity?  Are there any plans for similar functionality with gas or water use/systems?
