what's your walk score?

Forgive me if this has been posted already but I didn't turn up much in the search.

What's your walk score? http://www.walkscore.com/

Put in your address and this site tells you what businesses and services are within walking distance of you and generates a walk score for your addresses based on the amount of things within walking distance.

My house got a 52 (out of 100)

7 grocery stores within 2 miles

8 restaurants within half a mile

7 coffee shops within 2 miles

8 bars within 3/4 of a mile

1 theater within 2 miles

6 schools within half a mile

7 parks within 1.5 miles

5 libraries within 2 miles

3 books stores within 2 miles

7 gyms within 2 miles

1 drug store within half a mile

7 hardware stores within 2 miles

6 clothing and music stores within 2 miles

I just moved here 10 months ago so this is also helpful for me finding some nearby places, though some of the stuff is out of date (I know some places have changed within the short time I've lived here).

But still a cool service to show you what's within walking (or biking) distance of your home.

Wow, that's so cool!  I hadn't heard of Walk Score before.  It's definitely nice to see all sorts of businesses/organizations/schools aggregated based on neighborhood.  I have a walk score of 94.

WOW that is a really cool site.  i got a 92 and, having only lived in my apt for about a year, found out about a ton of new establishments (movie theaters, restaurants, even thrift stores) right around my place!  and they're all mapped out -- thanks for sharing!

97 of 100 - WOOT!

Nice to live in SF and other parts of the Bay Area where everything is so close together.

I got a 63, but most of the furthest places were things like coffee shops and movie theaters that I never go to anyway.

98...gotcha Deej.

17%... haha... and some don't even exist as far as I know O_O ... and others don't show. Haha...

I guess my neighborhood is not wakable lol.

That is a great tool- unfortunately, it seems to give walking distances as the crow flies, and not as the sidewalk runs.  We're at 51, which is a lot higher than I expected- we're in kind of a light industrial area at the moment.

yeah it does measure distance as the crow flies which sucks for people who live next to a highway or something...

It's still nice to know what's nearby though.

I got a 42!  Strange since I live out in the middle of nowhere.

There are some local stores within walking distance, heck....the whole town is walkable (one stop sign!)

It listed a bunch of stores in a town 15 miles away.  15 miles wouldn't be so bad to bike to if it weren't along a country highway.  Not bicycle or pedestrian friendly at all!

Oh well, I do what I can!  Very cool site though.

HeHeHe.... My Walk Score is 0.   I really live out in the boonies.

I live in North Temescal/Oakland -- right at the junction of Temescal, Piedmont & Rockridge.  My house address got a "83" but I was shocked at the number of places left off the list -- I mean, Trader Joe's is totally walking distance (1 mile) but not on the list...
