Polar Bear Listed as Endangered!

With one day to spare before the court mandated deadline, the Departnment of Interior has decided to list the polar bear as endangered due to dimishing arctic sea ice.

This is welcome news after some unexcpicable foot-dragging from the DOI who should have made the decision no later than early last January and have effectively been in violation of the law since then. In hearings  people like Senator Inhofe have offered up experts to show why the PB shouldn't be listed. His prime expert was a doctor of marketing (no sh--) - expect much hand-wringing from Infhofe and his ilk.

The polar bear will be the first species listed under the ESA due to climate change.

Yeah I saw that article and had the same reaction - it's about damn time.  It's abudantly clear that the decreasing amount of Arctic sea ice (due to global warming) is making it increasingly difficult for polar bears to hunt, and thus putting their species in imminent danger.  I'm glad that they made the correct decision, albeit delayed.
