Green... pets?

I have two indoor cats, and I love them to pieces.  I never (until today, at least) thought of them as being un-green.  But I use a lot of energy with the vacuum cleaner getting up cat hair... and I'm sure we use a TON of gross litter.  Not to mention that their wet food comes in those little cans (like tuna cans?) even though they eat dry food for 90-95% of their meals.

Anyway, does anyone else have Green Pets?  How do you keep them Green?  Are there any products you would reccommend that are both Green and good for a budget?  I'm thinking about switching litter, though my 17 pound monster (Icky) is a bit of a litter snob.  He really only likes it if it resembles clay litter.  (And the 14 pound monster (Gooey) only likes it if it's fresh and clean!)

Any advice?

Well for the vacuuming issue, you can attack the problem at its source by brushing the cats.  They make some nice undercoat brushes which allow you to brush all the way down to the cat's undercoat and get all the loose fur.  Then it just goes straight into the trash can, and you have to vacuum less often.

For the cat food, the cans are recyclable, so it doesn't seem like that should be an issue.

Deej's link has some 'green' cat litter.  Looks like they're made from pine, which is what we use for our cats.  It smells nice and produces less dust than clay litter, but I'm not sure how much 'greener' it is.

We've got 2 dogs and 2 cats, and we made a big sandbox in the backyard for one of the dogs to dig in.  It actually turned into a big litterbox for the cats.  And one of the dogs eats the poops, which while exceedingly disgusting, is technically a form of recycling.  She gets some nasty breath though!

Hahahaha...that's pretty funny.  It sure is a form of recycling.  Way to recycle those nutrients.
