There are also personal care products in the bathroom. There's a BIG market for eco-consious personal care products. Just an idea. Maybe also clothes&shoes.

Thanks for the suggestion, PetSMiLEs! You're right. There is a lot of interest in green personal care (as well as fashion). Right now we've really tried to keep a pretty close reign on our product categories but we are interested in expanding.
How would you feel about a Huddle devoted entirely to green lifestyle (including personal care, fashion, etc) as opposed to Green Home which would keep its focus on home products, appliances, etc?

Sounds like a good idea to me, to keep this Huddle from getting too crowded. And cycling - don't forget cycling!
As I just posted yesterday, the waterless 'urinal' idea is the coolest.
I really think it's an awesome idea that could save tons of money and water in public facilities all over the country. And I guess the world, but most of the countries I've been to had a totally different public restroom that would require some serious re-tooling and designing to incorporate urinals or these kind, at least.
The composting 'regular' toilet still seems like a nasty idea that may be great for someone who is willing to sacrifice for the sake of 'green' ideas, but I can't see them becoming widely accepted. Most non-devout 'green' peeps, like me, think it's just nasty and are far from convincing otherwise.

Is there anybody else interested in a computers category?
I just rebuilt my PC to use 30% less power.
Antec is one manufacturer that makes energy efficient power supplies.
Check it out. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=27430
I would love to see a category that included energy efficient laptops, desktops
and after market parts.
Thanks for the suggestion Gulag - we've had this dialog going about expanding categories for a few weeks now and are definitely moving forward with that expansion. Our priority right now is to improve the ability of users to add products to the system, then we'll be greatly expanding our categories in concert with that.
We'll likely have a "Green Gadgets" section subdivided into types that will include computers and more...it's not too far off, I promise. Keep the suggestions coming!

I was also looking to contribute reviews for personal care products and didn't find any. I think most people start from those since they are the ones that we use daily and come in direct contact with our skin. Would love to see a personal care category!
Do you think there should be a completely separate Huddle for personal care and organic products (foods, clothing, etc.) or would you like to see it integrated into this Huddle?
I promise we're listening - many more categories coming soon!

I vote for adding bidets to the toilet section, and clotheslines/drying racks somewhere or other. They could go with dryers, except they're not appliances.
I vote for bidets, and waterless options - urinals and composting toilets.
Also I'd like to see "non paper options" in the "paper product" category. I can't remember the last time I bought paper-towels because we exclusively use barmops. I'm also slowly switching to old-fashioned handkerchiefs for our seasonal drippy nose needs.
There's also not an option for "we don't use the heater because we live in texas and have south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows." Or something similar.
Grey water systems, rain-water systems, growing your own food, recycling, composting, taking public transport -- there's not even a "bicycle" option transportation and when I'm running minor errands it's that or my feet. How much you use your vehicle isn't taken into account either.
I agree with the computer/home office category.
Also, studies have shown that people who live in denser neighborhoods have a smaller footprint --multi-family buildings and the like.
This program is a great start but it certainly does need some additions.

Thanks so much for your feedback!
We already have greywater systems and composting toilets on the site, as well as rain barrels and cisterns and compost bins.
Bicycles are a fabulous way to go but we've been holding off adding pure bicycles (as opposed to electric bicycles) as we may soon launch a cycling Huddle. Also, because we do not currently have a computer or home office category, I would recommend checking out this wiki.

Green Home is not currently featuring any time of ecological footprint calculator which is why we don't take into account how much each individual uses their particular vehicle, public transportation, or other man-powered forms of transportation. If you are interested in carbon/ecological footprinting, I would suggest this wiki article.
The wikis are also a great place to write about topics like growing your own food, recycling, as well as easy ways to decrease your resource consumption through using handkerchiefs, cloth napkins, etc. Because Green Home focuses on reviews and research around specific products, it's a bit harder to include things like cloth napkins as there are so many different varieties. It would be great to get all your tips into a wiki article though! It really sounds like you run a green household!
We definitely appreciate your feedback. We always want to hear the products you want to talk about. Until we get the categories expanded more (keep in mind our team is quite small), I a suggest the Other Green Stuff forum.
Just to clarify, Huddler is primarily a green products site. So when you say "There's also not an option for "we don't use the heater because we live in texas and have south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows" - well, that's not a product. You could write a wiki on green architecture if it's something you're knowledgeable about, and incorporate it into Huddler that way. Same thing with your population density comment. It would be a topic worth writing a wiki about, but it's not product-related.
