No love for Zap?

Not too long after Truth About Cars scathing Zap Xebra review, this piece in Wired was recently published....also scathing.  Also about Zap.  But this time, all about how the company is pretty much just hype doesn't deliver.

Instead of an excerpt from the article, here's the little comic strip that illustrates how Randall Sullivan feels about Zap.

To read the whole (7-page) blasting, head on over to Wired.

That's a rather disturbing and well-researched story.  I hope Albert Lam turns things around at ZAP.

I was thinking about it some more, and the main criticism of ZAP was from them not delivering on cars like the Obvio and SmartCar.  However, they have developed a pretty nice product line of their own.  They've got the Xebras, Zapino, Zappies, Recharge-It-All, etc.

While it's entirely possible that they won't be able to produce their future cars by the expected date, I don't think they've failed to deliver on a product that they were producing themselves.  And for the most part they're really good products.

ZAP won't improve until Gary Starr and his partner are gone. The Xebra isn't useful unless you have no hills, and they have not delivered anywhere near the numbers promised. Dealers have given up on ZAP, with good reason. I've seen hard working and right-minded people burned for over 15 years now by Starr. Stay away from ZAP. Jerry
